Nice Long Weekend...

Happy Memorial Day everyone! I hope you all had a restful weekend, and have successfully launched the beginning of summer!

We did just that. Yesterday was Chun's going away party at the Fire Pits on Newport Beach. It was a fun day (other than the hour it took to find a parking spot) filled with Dodgeball, sausages, Smores and volleyball. It was very nice to spend the day with everyone and to see Chun off properly. It was also a nice reminiscence to our youthful days with the games, and the weather was perfect. All in all, a great way to kick off summer and wish Chun the best of luck in Grad School!

Today was much mellower, John and I hung out and relaxed, both feeling a little sore from yesterday's activities in the sand, and then we head out to a yummy lunch at Daphne's Greek Cafe for some Gyro, and then to our brand new Best Buy! We came home and watched the Celebrity Poker Showdown that awaited us on the TiVo, which was surprisingly entertaining, and now we nervously await tomorrow.....

When John starts his new job! Good luck honey!

A Few Recent Celeb Sightings...

My first couple of celeb sightings in recent history, and I forgot to post about them!

A few days ago, Sean Hayes from Will and Grace was in the store. I am not a fan of Will and Grace, so was therefore a little less impressed than the rest of the staff in my store, but nevertheless, I did recognize him - even though he was wearing his baseball hat, and hiding in the magazine section.

Also within the past few days, we had another celeb - more exciting to me, as John and I have been watching a bunch of "Firefly" - the sci-fi western that was canceled from FOX. He plays the preacher - Shepherd Book, Ron Glass.

Let's hope that now that it's summertime, we'll get more TV stars who are on vacation for the summer!

So Proud of My Baby!

I just got a phone call from John telling me that he was just offered a new job!

The position is with the DR Group which appears to provide all kinds of support (via editing services, and film stock supplies) to filmmakers everywhere! He's not really sure what the position is, or what the pay will be (but it has been promised to be nearly double what he has been making working for the Scientologists in Glendale) but most importantly, it's actually a job in the film industry!

I am so proud of John and I'm sure he will post further details on his blog later on.

Congrats!

So-Called Brilliance...

Yesterday was the big day, the release of Alanis Morissette's fourth album, So-Called Chaos and I was a little uncertain whether or not the album could live up to my expectations. I've heard various reviews, stating that Alanis had lost her anger, and that being in love (with actor Ryan Reynolds!) has greatly changed her music. Being that I was an angsty 16 year old when her first album came out, I was all about identifying with her anger, and I became concerned that this would be some fluffy, romantic pop-album.

So, what's the verdict?

So-Called Chaos is very different from her other albums, and there is a happiness and a peacefulness that is not found in her other albums. It is definitely influenced by the romance in her life, but it works really well. There is still that Alanis edge that fans are hoping for, and I think (although I have not yet invested the time in it that I have with her previous efforts) it is her best since Jagged Little Pill.

Read the All Music Review, it says it better than I can.

Then go down to your local Borders and buy it now.

Not Much Going On...

Just relaxing before I have to go to work at 4pm...

John is off at Paul's Poker Birthday Shindig, which I would have liked to have gone to, but the scheduling powers that be at Borders have screwed me over yet again....

We saw Troy last night, it was enjoyable. John and I were discussing it earlier, and we've decided that it was epic and all, but the Lord of the Rings trilogy has spoiled us in the ways of being impressed by epicness. But I enjoyed it, Brad Pitt was amazing (and I don't just mean his looks) and it was well done. All in all a good movie, not perfect, but good. It was pretty much what I expected.

Next weekend we're thinking of heading out into the desert for the Renaissance Faire with the free tickets I got from work. Some interesting perks I get at that place....

Changes to my Blog

I thought since Blogger changed a bunch of stuff, I would change the way my blog looks.....

I'm not sure I like the comment system now, but we'll give it a shot!

SO EXCITED!!

The birthday joy continues today as I finally purchased tickets for the second concert in the Verive Summer 2004 Concert Series!

On July 29, 2004 at the Greek Theater in beautiful Los Angeles, California, John and I will be seeing Alanis Morissette LIVE IN CONCERT!

I cannot even begin to explain how excited I am about this concert. I have always been a fan of Alanis, even since her very first album back in 1995 (I'm sure a few of you may have heard of it) when I remember listening to "You Oughta Know" with my dad in the car as I was learning how to drive. From then on, I bought every album she released on the day it came out, hoping it would be as fantastic as those proceeding it. Of course, I always thought so, even if the masses didn't always agree with me.

Back when "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie" was released in 1998, there were rumors that Alanis would be playing the tiny concert venue/nightclub The Catalyst in Santa Cruz. And she did, days before classes started for Winter Quarter my sophomore year in college, but somehow I missed it, and I have regretted it ever since.

So Miss Alanis has a new album coming out next Tuesday, and I'll be right there, first in line to buy "So Called Chaos." (It helps that I work in a store that sells music!)

And we'll be sitting there, right smack dab in the middle of the Greek Theater on July 29, realizing the dreams of my 19 year old self, seeing Alanis LIVE!

Oh, and did I mention that the Barenaked Ladies are opening for her?

All Out of Hand

I'm sure you're all aware of what's been happening on the news with Iraq and all, well, here's a petition to make Donald Rumsfeld resign. I don't know how much faith I have in a petition like this, but if John Kerry and his people can pull it off, I'd like to try to help.

Let people know about it, anyone can go to http://www.johnkerry.com/petition/rumsfeld.php and sign the petition!

and now i am old...

In case you missed it, Sunday I turned 25 years old...

I haven't really freaked out about it yet, because in the grand scheme of things, 25 is really young. And I have accomplished the most important thing in my first 25 years - I found my one true love! When I find myself getting weird about being 25, I think of John, and how lucky I am to have found him without having the struggles of the mid-twenties dating culture that we so often see represented on TV and in the movies. Whenever we go out to bars, and we see all the slimy, icky men and the slutted up women, I secretly thank whatever higher power allowed me to miss out on that.

Sure there are parts of my life that I feel I am "behind schedule." I feel like I should have my career all planned out, and all that. I guess I really feel like I should have any sort of PLAN by now. But I don't. I've made a clear decision to avoid having to make a plan for the time being and just see where life takes me. So I may not know where I'm going, but I know it has to be more interesting than having the next few years dictated by a schedule.

And perhaps that's why I don't feel old. I am looking forward to not knowing where life will take me over the next few years. I'm sure there will come a point where I've had enough, and I'll want a plan....

And I'm sure I'll throw a party to commemorate the occasion!
