HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Here it is, the greatest of all holidays! We are about to head off to the great Verive clan Thanksgiving feast, and as we were sitting outside, casually enjoying a relaxing holiday cup of coffee, we saw no less than a dozen daredevil squirrels, risking feats of strength and dexterity as the hopped from tree to tree outside our porch. John had even outstretched an arm at one point and a squirrel looked like he was seriously considering jumping to his arm! It was quite the experience!

So enjoy the overindulgence in the turkey! Have a great holiday everyone!

Another celebrity sighting!

This evening, as John and I waited in line at Jack in the Box, we saw another celebrity! Not nearly as exciting as the recently sighted Lawrence Fishburne and Leo diCaprio of coworkers of mine at Borders, but we saw

Peter Greene!

For those of you who don't recognize the name, Peter Greene has appeared in such films as The Mask starring Jim Carrey, Permanent Midnight starring Ben Stiller, but his most noteworthy performance was as Zed in Pulp Fiction!

YAY HOLLYWOOD!

Some time to myself...

Not to say that I've had a real day off in the past week and a half, but yesterday I only worked two hours (on my day off) to order food and supplies for the cafe. Things are going so marvelously busy and hectic, that right now, I am avoiding answering the phone, for fear that they will call me in early to help out.

I really can't take it anymore.

Which isn't to say that I don't still like my job, it's just driving me closer and closer to insanity with all the craziness going on.

But hopefully soon things will calm down a little - but not much, what with the holidays just around the corner. With only 36 shopping days till Christmas, who knows what the next 5 weeks will hold for me.

So I think I'll just relax for the next three hours until I have to be back at work...

The Day Has Finally Come!

Today was opening day for Borders Hollywood, and I must say that it was quite successful! The cafe made twice as much money as we ever expected for it to make in a day, and we nearly ran out of much of the food we had that was supposed to last a week!

So needless to say, the cafe was such a success that I get to work tomorrow - a previously scheduled day off! So rather than the 70 hours I thought I would end up working this week, it appears that it will be closer to 80..... (sweet paycheck!)

But everyone in the community is SO excited that Borders has moved in to the "historic" intersection at Sunset Blvd. and Vine St. I had random people come up to me and tell me they loved me, simply due to the fact that we had brought books, multimedia and a KICK ASS CAFE to the heart of Hollywood. The positive vibes were incredible!

Additionally, this means I will have no life for just one more day. I will finally be free on Monday, save a couple of hours where I have to go in to work to place all the orders for the cafe next week.

Maybe sometime soon I'll have something other than work to talk about.....

The End of Week Two

I am very sorry for not posting in the past week, and here is my excuse.

I worked 62 hours this week... I have fallen asleep within hours of getting home each night. Every muscle in my body hurts.

Hope that is a valid excuse for everyone...

So here it is, the end of the second week of the Hollywood Borders sort. Things are getting really crazy, and the hours are ramped up even higher for next week!!!

Monday and Tuesday I will be working 13 hours each day, then 10 hours each Wednesday through Friday, then eight hours each Saturday (Opening Day) and Sunday!

Only 72 hours in one week?? Is that all???

But after that point hopefully things will simmer down to a more normal state. It would be great to have a social life again and to be able to see my sweet husband for more than a few hours before I crash into a lifeless mass of sleepiness.

And I know I've said it a million times before, but the store is beautiful and this has to be one of the most fulfilling jobs I've ever had....

(And the paycheck will be unbelievable!!!)
