Foiled again...

Well, it's time to take a long hard look at where I thought my career was going.

I didn't get the promotion.

Only a Few More Days...

I had my second interview today and it went extremely well. I totally rocked it!!!

My boss then later inquired how it went, and I told him that I had indeed rocked it! I told him that our District Manager had told me that there was a bit of a rush on the decision so I should be hearing soon, but wasn't anticipating anything more quickly than at least a few weeks.... He then said that he was going to try to talk to her today, and I should know in "the next day or so!"

So I only have to be patient for a few more days!

Thank you all for all your well wishes! It means a lot to me that you have all been so supportive!

Another Big Day!

Tomorrow morning at 8am I have my second interview with my District Manager. It's the last step in the whole process and the job also closes tomorrow, so anytime after tomorrow I should find out about the job...

I'm a little nervous cuz it's a phone interview and I'm never sure how I come off in phone interviews.... But I'm sure it will be okay!

Just one more request for luck!!! Thanks!

The First Time Ever!!!

My interview was today, and it went very well. I feel like I have a 97% shot.

In all of my Borders Management position interviews, this is the first time I was selected to be sent on for a second interview with the District Manager - usually saved only for the candidate that the General Manager has decided on.

Nothing will be official for a week or two, but I'm feeling exceptionally good about it....

Thanks for all the happy thoughts!

I Hate Insurance Companies...

So I got a call from the claims woman from my insurance company. They are blaming me completely for the accident, no matter what I said.

They are going to offer the idiot a settlement, in the interest of protecting ME, their customer.

More details will be given to me tomorrow, following the meeting between the insurance company and the other driver....

Saturday is the Big Day!

Well, not that big, but I am scheduled for an interview for this latest job opportunity on Saturday afternoon. Things like these are weird, I've been working with my boss overall for nearly two years, so he already knows what kind of job I do and what skills I have and my management style, etc..... so an interview at this point seems... well, pointless....

But things are moving... The job closes on the 25th, so I won't know anything official until then I would imagine... It's so weird how this company is so concerned with the proper protocol... but if things are going anything like usual, the decision has already been made and they are just waiting for the proper time to announce it.

So hopefully this time things will be in my favor, and in 3-4 weeks I may be taking the next BIG step in my career at Borders...

The position is the Sales Manager, so I would be in charge of all of the merchandising that happens in the store. I would also be overseeing the cafe (yet again) but on a much higher, don't-have-to-make-lattes-for-idiots level... I would also be second in command in the store, and only a few years away from having my very own store....

So we'll see what happens.... I'm really trying not to get my hopes up...

Worst Week Ever....

So I'm pretty lucky, cuz things certainly could have been much worse. I certainly wasn't up for the challenge this week presented me, but I'm glad to report that everything seems to be okay again.

Thank you all for all of the kind thoughts.

Here's hoping next week is better.

God Bless the Hyundai

I was driving back to work from my lunch break tonight. I waited at a green light to make a left turn onto Fairfax. The light turned yellow, and I inched out into the intersection. The guy driving the opposite direction hit the gas to make it through the light, and as the light turned red and i was beginning my turn, the guy shoots through the intersection and hits my car head on.

Everyone is okay, except for the other guy's car. My car escaped miraculously okay. Not perfect, but the other driver even commented on my "well built car."

Sorry for the short sentences, I am feeling pretty shook up.

Wishful Thinking...

I'm so done with being at all positive about any opportunities that come my way in my career at Borders. Since 2000 when I first started with the company, I think the tally is up to twelve upper management positions that I have not gotten.

So back when I started at this particular store six months ago, my General Manager so much as promised he would promote me to Sales Manager in the event our current manager left. I thought nothing of it. It could be years before he got out.

Well, today, surprise surprise - the Sales Manager gave his notice - his five day notice. This Sunday the promotion that I have been waiting for nearly 5 years for could possibly be mine.

Unfortunately, the General Manager was in a meeting when the notice was given, so I haven't had a chance to talk with him about it. But we are closing together tomorrow night, so I'm sure I'll have more information then...

Wish me luck!

The Holidays are Over...

It's been way too long since I've blogged, The holidays were crazy this year, what with work and all, and I just haven't had the motivation to put anything new on this blog. But since the craziness is finally over, I can get back to some semblance of a routine.

Christmas was nice, a visit to the Verive Clan with delicious food and visiting with family. I missed not being able to visit with my family, but wasn't able to get any time off to go up north and visit. We'll have to continue the celebrations up north in January.....

New Years was also fun. New Year's Eve we headed out to the mall in Arcadia (the hugest mall with every store you could imagine!) and spent our Christmas money! We got some great clothes and it was nice to spend a day just the two of us! That night we hung out at home and watched some movies and played some board games and shared a bottle of champagne. It was a mellow way to ring in the new year.

So here we are, 2006. I can't believe it. I don't really have any resolutions just yet, but I'm working on it.

Happy New Year to you all!
