Bastards

Well, despite what felt like two really good interviews with the Starbucks Coffee Company, this morning I woke up to an E-MAIL, thanking me for my time and telling me that they aren't interested at this time.

AN E-MAIL?!?!?

Well, it's not like our livelihood depended on it. I would have been sad to leave Borders, and my cafe..... and let's face it, they would have been ULTRA-SCREWED if I had left... So in the long run, it may end up being better for everyone...

Why would they send me an e-mail, though?

YAY Starbucks!

My interview with the regional recruiter went really well! I am scheduled to meet with a District Manager next Monday for Assistant Manager positions in Hollywood/Mid-LA/South Valley (i.e. Burbank and Studio City!)

So that was promising.... not that I needed this opportunity, what with just coming back to Borders four months ago from a year long hiatus.... but if they are willing to promote me and offer more $$$, who I am to turn that down?

Thanks for all the positive wishes.... I'll need them again next Monday!

Wish Me Luck!

So, about a week ago, I got a random call from a Starbuck's regional recruiter, wanting to have me come in for an interview! The recruiter was very ambiguous about jobs available and what I would be interviewing for, but with all of my new found Cafe experience at Borders, I am totally qualified for an Assistant Manager position.... so that would be awesome...

The other day, John and I were driving by the new HUGE shopping center about to open on La Brea and Santa Monica Boulevard and there was a sign for a Starbuck's "coming soon!" and if they are recruiting for that new store, my commute to work would drop from one mile to two blocks from home!

So my interview is at 3pm! Wish me luck!

How Did I Miss These?!?!

At work, the day after I saw Dominic Monaghan at Ralphs, Elijah Wood was sighted in my store, and made a substantial purchase in MY CAFE!

Damn days off......

In other things I have missed, apparently Sarah McLachlan will be playing at the Staples Center in July, and tickets went on sale on Februaru 9th! So now, the only seats that are left are crappy seats way in the back to the sides....

Perhaps ebay will help me out in my quest to see Sarah live........

Never Again Am I Allowed To Go To Ralph's Alone.....

Today, while picking up a few items for tonight's dinner at one of the Ralph's in West Hollywood, I came upon the most exciting of all of my celebrity sightings!

I saw a Hobbit!

Dominic Monaghan, who plays Merry in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, was keeping up pace with me as I wandered through the store!

I stopped in front of the olives/pickles aisle, and he looked at me, and then walked right in front of me and stopped - as though he wanted me to recognize who he was. I stood there, desperately trying to think of something clever to say, or to figure out a way to get his autograph, but failing at all of the above. I left the store and came home to recount the tale of the hobbit in the supermarket to John, who was less than pleased that he had decided to sit this shopping trip out...

Fabulous weekend!

I had a fabulous two days off with my honey, and we accomplished quite a few things (once we got over ourselves and got out of the house to do something!)

Monday night we trekked out to Petco to get ourselves a new Betta (as the one we had purchased not three days after moving to the great City of Angels had passed away about a week ago...) and came home with a sinister looking pretty blue Betta. Now all we have left to do is name him.... any ideas?

Today we ventured into the cursed Valley to the inexpensive Swedish furniture wonder that is IKEA and walked away with a pretty sweet dining room set! Of course I had to get silly and set the table for this picture, but you can get a general idea of what meals at Verive's Hollywood will now look like!

Afterwards was our long-awaited discovery of a taqueria in North Hollywood (or as we like to call it NoHo) where we enjoyed some fantastic food.... for more on this, see John's blog.

So, all in all a good weekend..... Back to the grind tomorrow afternoon....

Get it? Grind??

See, I make coffee for a living.....

Now do you get it? ;)
