I Hate Rich People

Or people who have enough money that they think they are better than everyone else.

Today I went to Del Taco to pick up some lunch for John to drop it off at his work. After retrieving the food, I got back in the car and began to pull out of my parking spot to head over to see John. As I pulled out of the spot about three feet, I saw a black Mercedes pulling up behind me, so I stopped. I had pulled out just enough that if the black Mercedes didn't see me and adjust just slightly, he would hit me. I watched as the car approached closer and closer to me expecting him to stop or readjust when he kept going and ran right into me. I was shocked!

I pulled forward and got out of the car, and the guy actually had the nerve to say that the accident was MY fault! He argued that I had backed into him and was obviously really pissed about his precious car. I couldn't stop shaking I was so shocked/angry/freaked out about the whole thing. My car just had some paint damage on the bumper, so I wasn't too concerned about it, but this guy was insistent that it was my fault and that he would be talking with the insurance company.

Fortunately there was a man in the parking lot who saw the whole thing and we chatted about the arrogance of this punk. He agreed that it wasn't my fault, and that this guy was just going to try to make me pay. He agreed to be a witness on my behalf if I needed.

What a friggin day.....

I Love Maya Angelou

Last night John and I along with a few friends headed out to Largo, a cool little club in LA, for a dinner and comedy/music show. We were promised performances by Zach Galfianakis and friends, plus a special performance by Jon Brion (of I Heart Huckabees and Punch Drunk Love music fame) and "special friend." The rumor was that Brion would be performing with Fiona Apple, as preparation for her new CD which is FINALLY going to be released this fall. We were unsure if we would actually see Fiona, but as we were sitting waiting for our dinner, we caught a glimpse of a waify, long-haired girl in the kitchen who could only have been Fiona Apple. We were close enough to the kitchen door that we could spy on Fiona as she nervously awaited her appearance on stage!

The show was great, and featured appearances by Bryan Callen, Laura Kightlinger, Tom Sharp and Jen Cartman. The comedians were all hilarious (with a slight exception on Laura Kightlinger's part, as she seemed really unprepared and rambling.) We listened intently to Galifianakis' performance, knowing that any moment he would relinquish the stage to the "special friend!" Sure enough, she and Jon Brion appeared and played four great songs (Extraordinary Machine, which we had heard on a downloaded copy of the yet unreleased album, two songs we were unfamiliar with but which sounded really cool and folky, and Paper Bag, one of my favorite Fiona songs!)... It was kind of a strange vibe, as it almost seemed as though Jon Brion was a music teacher, and Fiona was the student and they were rehearsing for her big recital. She looked absolutely terrifed the whole time, but the crowd loved it and overall it was a GREAT show!

Always with the job dilemmas!!!

So about a week after I started my new job (which is fabulous, might I add!) the Inventory Manager was "let go." The position was posted for 2 weeks, and during those two weeks (rather than consult all of you) I AGONIZED over whether or not to apply. The job is a promotion, a bump in salary of $10-$12K/year, and a way bigger challenge than I have ever experienced in my job. The bad part is that it is a salaried position (no more overtime and long hours, 6 days weeks and the like) and a crappier schedule - more evenings and weekend closing shifts. So you see the dilemma ahead of me....

Do I take the cash and give up my freedom and the quality time I can spend with my husband?

We've been discussing it forever (well, the two weeks did feel like forever!) and I finally decided to apply for it, with the understanding that I could still turn it down if I ultimately decided i wasn't interested.

So I had my interview yesterday and I should find out by the end of next week!

Wish me luck! Or don't.... I don't know!
