What a Day...

I was awoken this morning by a phone call from my wonderful husband, around 9:15 this morning. He sounded concerned and asked if I had called him from my cellphone and hung up. I sleepily replied, no, as I had been fast asleep and usually leave my cellphone in the car for use in emergency situations. We left it at that, and as I drifted off to sleep, I imagined someone breaking into my car and taking the phone, but shrugged the thought off as quickly as it had come.

At noon, John called to have me meet him for lunch, which sounded nice - today was my day off from work, and my only plan had been to clean up the house a little. So I headed downstairs to the parking garage beneath our apartment, and lo and behold - there was glass everywhere, and no window on the passenger side of the car. The glove box was open and emptied onto the seat, and the only thing missing was my cellphone+car charger. I nearly collapsed from the shock of the image I had seen in my half-asleep state being a reality. I investigated the back seat to find everything intact, the CD player untouched. The pile of change in the center console was still there, and my camera wasn't stolen either.

I jumped in the car, and drove off to meet John at Del Taco, and drove up and parked next to him. He got out of the car, and I pointed at the few remaining glass shards still sitting in the window frame. Then came the tears......and the uncontrollable shaking. I have never had anything like this happen to me before, and I felt (still feel) so violated. I can't even comprehend why or who would do such a thing.

I then sat in the Hollywood Community Police Department waiting to file a police report for an hour and a half, as the police officers helped victim after victim with lost phones, and impounded vehicles. They seemed to move in slow motion - walking talking and even writing slowly. Finally, I filed my report and headed home.

Now I just have a pounding headache, and a diminished faith in the general goodness of people...
